Note: While a picture can be worth a thousand words a bumper sticker can be quite the opposite making the complex seem quite simple. Many issues can be summed up in a slogan but nothing beats the clarity of deeper thinking.

While returning home from a weekend trip to San Diego I read an interesting bumper sticker on a little Toyota Prius hybrid that passed me on the highway. It was a new sticker for me, so it drew my immediate attention. Bumper sticker reading is one of my favorite driving pastimes. Stickers on the back side of a car tells you a lot about the person steering the front side. I like to give “thumbs up” to those with bumper stickers with which I agree. And I’ve laughed off more than a few times those who have flipped me the bird over what was on the bumper of my car. Something I’ve found to be true, is the more stickers one has on their car, truck or van the more passionate they are about their opinions. Some people, quite frankly, shouldn’t share.
The sticker on the back of this Prius read “I’m Straight, Not Narrow.” For a moment I pondered what this could mean. Then it hit me. The person was straight, a heterosexual, but not narrow minded on the issue of homosexuality and same-sex marriage and all the rest of it. In other words, this driver was saying, I’m no bigot but if you disagree, you are. If you disagree, you very likely a narrow minded Christian or other “believer” or backward close minded thinker. Well, I’m not exactly sure why their view is any less bigoted or any more noble than the next but what I do know is they are rejecting the moral dictates of the God of the Bible. And if I’m going to stand in solidarity with anyone — it will be with that ridged narrow minded God to whom we will all bow a knee.
The problem with these clever little bumper stickers, as I see it, and the idolatry mindset that dreams up such nonsense, is it seems to be itself, the narrow, selfish viewpoint, not the traditional view held by the majority of Americans that disagrees. This sexual hedonistic view where indecent individuality trumps the decency of civilization is cut from whole cloth to fit what can only be described as idol worship.
With all the hoopla in the news these days over same sex marriage, gay adoption and gender confused children using which ever restroom they choose based on their polluted emotional state of mind reminds me daily of how upside down our world truly has become.
I’ve got no particular axe to grind with homosexuals other than to keep their business out of my business. My business being the public arena, my kids schools, their textbooks, the courts, the government, sports, etc.
The homosexuals that I’ve known are nice enough as far as it goes. I’ve worked with homosexuals. I’ve had homosexual neighbors. I’ve had homosexual friends. A gay acquaintance who was a realtor, sold my first home. My wife and I had a lesbian couple attended our wedding. I reject their sin and their lifestyle and they know it and they understand it and they accept it as our firmly held belief. Yet we remain, at best friends at worse friendly, we disagree but are not disagreeable. Politically I’d say they lean more right than left so perhaps that helps.
Essentially we are all born one sex or the other (not a gender), male or female. This is not something we can choose, and yes, it is what we are, it is who we are. Our sex cannot be chosen or changed based on feelings and emotion.
Homosexuality pure and simple is rooted in lust, it’s a sexual perversion based on same sex attraction, not personhood or identity. It’s no greater a sin than adultery, drunkenness or lying however it has penetrated the public arena and the modern mind as not only a protected right and lifestyle but advocated for as an equally healthy and equally moral and upright way of life to that of heterosexuality. Homosexuality is not good for society. History is replete with examples of the acceptance of homosexuality and the destruction of that civilization. The greater the acceptance the greater the increase in the behavior, the sooner the destruction. Look no further than the Greek and Roman empires where man – boy sex became common.
Even one of our most distinguished political figures and Founding father’s who was adamant about freedom of conscience, Thomas Jefferson, said homosexual sodomy should be treated like rape.
Homosexuality has no correlation to race or sex and to make the comparison is not only a disservice to the races and the sexes, it is a monumental lie. It is a vice of destruction unto itself.
The thing I find most destructive about the rise of homosexual acceptance is not same sex marriage or benefits to same sex couples but in the area of adopting children. Few things in life seem so absurd.
Spousal relationships are about more than love and marriage, procreation and family. They’re about civilization and structure, security and stability. Homosexuality is rooted in a selfishness that seeks to fulfill its carnal wants and desires rather than the loving selflessness of a God based family unit that puts the needs of children above the desires of mothers and fathers. I can find no greater tragedy than to deny a child a father or a mother.
Divorce is a destructive force upon a society and a tragic when it involves children. Divorce involving children, like single parenthood, is the result of selfishness and a lack of wisdom and punishes the children no matter the rationale of the adults. Broken homes result in innocent children being given the low distinction of starting out life or continuing it with a massive disadvantage to those in a complete family structure. The destructive results of broken homes are so wide spread so broad and so deep that it’s hard to measure or comprehend in the short term. Nearly every major metropolitan urban city in America is afflicted with the results of fatherless homes. Why would we choose to do this — in a homosexual situation — when it is completely avoidable? A complete household with father and mother is the best and surest way to ensure the success and happiness of any child. To deny them that is to be morally confused at best and completely wicked at worst.
Giving homosexuals the right to place a child in an inferior family framework — with the emotional and psychological disadvantages of not having both a father and a mother (something which nearly all homosexuals had the benefit of having) is a travesty of wholesome family values.
Aristotle may have put it best — prior to the bumper sticker era when he said; “The worst form of inequality is to try to make unequal things equal.”
